God’s Kitchen Celebration

November 1, 2022 by Andrew Burd-Harris Leave a Comment

Join us to help celebrate an amazing mission!  God’s Kitchen started in 2016 and for 5+ years, local churches served a free meal every Tuesday to the community in the Middletown area.  Although the doors of this mission have closed to allow God to open other doors, the God’s Kitchen Committee is holding a celebration to thank all the local churches for their help and support during this mission.  Please join us at Wesley UMC on Tuesday, November 29th, at 6:00 p.m. for a free roast beef dinner followed by a short service of celebration after the meal.  Watch for a sign-up sheet so we can plan for the numbers.  Hope to see you there!

Prepare the Way for the LORD (Sunday School)

October 20, 2022 by Andrew Burd-Harris 2 Comments

Pastor Andrew is offering a Sunday School class this Advent. We will look at Adam Hamilton’s book Prepare the Way for the LORD: Advent and the message of John the Baptist. Join us as we explore John the Baptist’s role in Jesus’ first coming and how his ministry might prepare us for the second. Each week we will start with a time of prayer, an opportunity to share how life is going, Pastor Andrew will briefly go over the assigned reading, and we will then discuss the assigned reading. The class is being offered in person in our Zoom room or on Zoom.

Participants should pick up a copy of Adam Hamilton’s Prepare the Way for the LORD. If you would like the church to order a copy of the book for you. Please contact the church office (office@eumch.org or 717-944-6181). The cost of the book is 13.99. If the cost of the book will be a problem, please talk to Pastor Andrew. If you would like to order through the church, please let us know by Sunday, November 13th.

Introduction to Isaiah (Bible Study)

October 20, 2022 by Andrew Burd-Harris 1 Comment

This Advent we are going to explore in our sermons and the pastor’s Bible Study a passage from the book of Isaiah sometimes called “the book of Immanuel” (chapters seven through twelve). Immanuel/Emmanuel means God with us. Early Christians read this passage of Isaiah and saw these chapters as prophesying about Jesus.

To prepare for Advent, we will study the first six chapters of Isaiah. We will learn more about the prophet, the book, and the context leading to “the book of Immanuel.” Each study will be on Zoom and in-person. All are welcome!

Sessions will be on Zoom or in Room 3 (in the basement of our educational wing). Contact us for Zoom information or with any questions you may have. All are welcome!

Schedule

  • October 31-Introduction and Isaiah 1
  • November 7-Isaiah 2
  • November 14-Isaiah 3-4
  • November 21-Isaiah 5-6
