Humor (Bible Study)

April 27, 2024 by Andrew Burd-Harris 1 Comment

Did Jesus laugh? Was there humor in Jesus’ voice when he said things like, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God” (Matthew 10:25, NRSV)? Did the Apostle Paul have a smile on his face as he dictated his famous letters to the early Christian churches? Join Pastor Andrew for a Bible Study this May as we wrestle with humor hidden in the Bible.

Each study will be on Zoon and in-person on most Mondays in Lent. We will start at 7 PM for each class. The schedule is below. All are welcome.

Schedule

  • May 6-Laughing and Babies (Genesis 17: 1-17 & Genesis 18: 1-15)
  • May 13-Laughing at the Absurd (Matthew 5: 29; 7:3-5; 19:24, Galatians 5:12, 1 Corinthians 4:10, Philippians 3: 2-4)
  • May 20-Humor in Parables (Luke 5: 33-39; 16: 1-13;19: 11-27)
An AI generated oil painting of Jesus and his disciples laughing at a meal in the style of Casper David Friedrich.
