Christianity and World Religions (Sunday School)

August 3, 2023 by Andrew Burd-Harris 1 Comment

This September/October, Pastor Andrew’s Sunday School class will explore the question-what does it mean to be a Christian when an ever-growing number of our neighbors have different religious beliefs? We will study Adam Hamilton’s book Christianity and World Religions, revised edition. In the book, we will explore Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Pastor Andrew will supplement Adam’s book with the framing device that Stephen Prothero uses in his book God Is Not One: the eight rival religions that run the world-and why their differences matter.

Participants should pick up a copy of Adam Hamilton’s Christianity and World Religions, revised edition. If you would like the church to order a copy of the book for you, please contact the church office . The cost of the book is $13. If the cost of the book will be a problem, please talk to Pastor Andrew. If you would like to order through the church, please let us know by Sunday, August 20th.

Schedule

  • September 10-Introduction and Chapter 1: The Wise Men
  • September 17-Chapter 2: Hinduism
  • September 24-Chapter 3: Buddhism
  • October 1-Chapter 4: Judaism
  • October 8-Chapter 5: Islam
  • October 15-Chapter 6: Christianity

Abraham and Sarah-Fall Bible Study 2023

August 2, 2023 by Andrew Burd-Harris 1 Comment

Abraham and Sarah are major figures in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah (and God’s faithfulness to that promise) sets in motion the rest of the Bible. They leave their home in Ur to see a land that God had promised them. As a barren couple God promised that their descendants would number the stars. Their story has high points of great faith and valleys where they question God.

Join Pastor Andrew’s Bible study this September/October to learn more about Abraham and Sarah. The class will explore how their journey of faith relates to our journeys of faith. Each class will start at 7 PM in Room 3 and also will be on Zoom. See the schedule below.

Schedule

  • September 11-Genesis 11:27-12:30
  • September 26-Genesis 13-14
  • October 2-Genesis 15-16
  • October 9-Genesis 17:1-18:15
  • October 16-Genesis 18:16-19:38
  • October 23-Genesis 20-21
  • October 30- Genesis 22: 1-19, 25
